September 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month! This is a time to honor the rich cultures and contributions of people with roots in Spain and 19 other countries and territories—like Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and many more. This year’s national theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future,” highlights the incredible spirit of innovation, resilience, and unity that defines the Hispanic and Latino experience.

From Dolores Huerta, an advocate for workers’, women’s, and Latinx rights, to Ruben Salazar, a journalist who brought attention to the struggles of the Chicano community, we celebrate the local and national heroes who have shaped our beloved city, our home and beyond.
