Black History Month

February 1 - 28

Brandon Smith once shared a powerful message with our E58 community about the power of beauty. He reminded us that it was the beauty of Christ that saved the world. In a time when it’s overwhelmingly easy as humans to get focused on what is broken and unjust, however, it is the love of God that saves us.

Smith challenged us with this, “Instead of us trying to overwhelm a cynical world weary of arguing and suspicious of our truth claims, what if they were overwhelmed by the perception and persuasion of beauty?”

The black community the world over testifies to the saving power of beauty. Through song, humor, creativity, hospitality, deep faith, and vibrant community, they have carried a testimony of resilience, joy, and overcoming—despite a history of oppression and trauma. This is a people group whose beauty is profound and whose loudest testimony is that of the overcomer, not of the oppressed.

As we take time to celebrate the Black community, we honor the everyday joy, creativity, and profound beauty they bring to the world. We invite you to learn, support, and reflect on the contributions of Black leaders, artists, and trailblazers who have shaped history—and continue to shape our future.
