The Practice of Gratitude

November 1 - December 31

As we prepare to enter the holiday season, let’s begin by setting our hearts toward gratitude. Gratitude is not merely a suggestion; it is a biblical command.

The Bible has so much to say about being thankful and giving thanks. Take a look at Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV). You’llfind language like: “Be thankful,” “Sing to God with gratitude,” “Whatever you do—do it with giving thanks.” These aren’t just suggestions; they’re instructions.

And then there’s 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV): “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Gratitude isn’t optional—it’s central to living out God’s will.
